Pan’s Labyrinth is not a kids or fantasy movie.
More later once I’ve had the chance to digest it.
While perusing the aisles of the local discount retail store attempting to find the latest Babylon 5 DVD, “The Lost Tales,” I just happened to glance down at the new releases and see a DVD i have been waiting YEARS to come out… Monster Squad.
Ok, this is one seriously dorky movie. But when it came out, I was around the same age (or younger) of the kids in the film, and I thought it was one of the greatest movies ever. The last time I saw it was on VHS, rented from the local movie place, with dropouts and blurry video. Even then I had to laugh at the “too 80’s” characters. The boys with their acid-washed, too faded jeans, and the girls sporting the latest madonna-esque fashions. And who can forget one of the most memorable lines of the film, “Wolfman’s got nards!”
This film easily fits in with “The Lost Boys” and “The Goonies” for the Ultimate 80’s Horror Teen Horror Flicks.
I can’t wait to get home to watch it. Plus there are interviews with the cast – fantastic!

I was born a mere 6 days and 30 miles from one of the most legendary geeks on the planet. No, not bill Gates, but the incredible Chris Pirillo. Sure Chris packed up lockergnome and moved to Seattle – who wouldn’t? I myself packed up and moved to Los Angeles. But unlike Chris Pirillo, I came back to Iowa, and am now working a job as a web site programmer/designer – instead of raking in the bucks as a big blogger.
I should be out there with Chris and the Big Boys. My net experience, and entourage of contacts, should have my blog in the top of the ratings. But it’s not, and never will. I even tried this morning to go to some of Chris’s sites for inspiration, especially his Silicon Valley community site, which I am trying to mimic at http://www.discoverames.com. But apparently all his sites are down at the moment. oops.
So what does Chris Pirillo have that I don’t? Is it too late for me to make money on the Internet by blogging? I don’t know. I need to find that niche I guess… that is what everybody says. Find the niche. Easier said than done. And so I continue the search for the Pirillo Code, hoping to one day attend Gnomedex and maybe, just maybe, make a buck or two.

There, that should keep me busy for a while…
For year I have been tempted to buy some of the Voyagers! boot-leg DVDs on eBay. I absolutely loved the TV show.
For those who don’t quite remember, it was the story of Bogg and Jeffrey, who traveled through time to help history along, give it a push where it’s needed. They are responsible for sending Moses down the Nile as a baby, and basically righting history. So how does history go wrong? Due to a BAD Voyager, of course.
they traveled through time by using an Omni (replicas can be found for about $700 – me want) and a light turned from red to green once the timeline was fixed. Of course, things would be easier with a manual (aka a history book) but Bogg left his in the 1980s when he bumped into Jeffrey.
I remember being upset there were so few episodes, only to find out many years later it was because of Jon-Erik Hexum accidentally shot himself with a blank in a prop gun. I so wanted to order the boot-leg versions, but they were a) expensive and b) copies of 1980’s VHS tapes … can you say… ew?
So now I see they will be released on Amazon on July 17th. Woo hoo! This is going to be great!
