All the books that tell you “when people call you on the phone at work angry and upset, they aren’t mad at YOU, so be cheerful and don’t take it personally.”
Lies.
And impossibilities. You have to take it personally. If you don’t… something’s wrong with you.
Things over at Colin Devroe’s The-Diet page have slowed to a crawl, mainly since Colin apparently reached his main goal of loss, and is now working on muscle-gain. I congratulate Colin, but I wonder where that leaves the rest of us. Suddenly the support system is gone since we can only comment on his past posts. If any of the other other dieters have a place where they are talking/gathering… please let me know!
I restarted the diet yesterday, mainly due to inflating back up to 217/218 lbs after I briefly saw 210 a few weeks ago. So, basically I am going to start again on Day 1 of Week 1 and just kind of go from here. I have started a new blog with the details, but I’m going to keep that one more under-wraps until I have some good things to post. In the meantime, I will add a new page over on the right that says “Weight by Day” to keep track.
One of the other things I am trying this time is writing my goal down on paper, in places I will see it every day. I have heard that this simple action works for any goal – once you see it in front of you, you are more likely to remember it when temptation hits. It works for saving money, diets, anything… or so they say. I will try it and see.
Yesterday wasn’t as hard to get back on as I thought. Things are easier if we see instant gratification. That’s why we have to spend when we acquire money, why we eat when we want to “feel good” and other things.  Problem with weight loss is, it can be weeks before you see any improvement. So, when I saw a pound less today than yesterday… that is VERY encouraging, and is giving me another boost.
My new goal is not 190, but rather 185. I will reach it.

I got up to go get one of the ultra-low priced laptops today, advertised at only 21 per store. I got to Best Buy around 4:15, since the Best Buy site said nobody could line up until 4, and they would give out coupons or whatever.
I knew I was in trouble when people were coming OUT of the parking lot. It was full.
The line was already clear around the building.
So, I left. That is ridiculous. I wish the eBay boon was over so all the a-holes who just buy things and put them on eBay would be left penniless and castrated. Me, I guess I’ll just go back to bed.

So little time!
I’m taking off work Wednesday, so I’m sure I will have a podcast either tomorrow or Wednesday. Stay tuned for a Lindsay Lohan jingle from Doug, but no listener voicemail this time… people must be taking it easy for the holidays or something.
Stay tuned…

I always feel bad when I chop onions because I look at the cat and tears are running down her face. I just looked at her, asleep on the couch in my office, and the couch had little wet spots from where her tears hit it.
At least I hope they were tears and not something else…

Tonight I got home from rehearsal at around 10pm, but luckilly I did my onion-dip shopping before rehearsal, so when I got home, I went straight to chopping onions.  I’m sure the guy down below me in the lower part of the duplex was thrilled I was running the food processor late at night, but he didn’t pound on the ceiling or anything, so I guess that is good. Besides, last weekend he was chopping wood on the cement foundation outside his side door, which rattled through the walls until about 9:45 or 10.
So the onion dip is cooking, I quickly made 2 batches and am cooking them at once, should be ok. I hope. It’s harder to get the right combination of ingredients when you do two at once. I am making the dip for the office Thanksgiving potluck party, which is tomorrow.  Originally I intended to take the whole week off, then decided not to, and then today I decided to take Wednesday off.  I NEED some time off.
Oh, and regarding the dead possum, you will just have to come see “The Bench” in Ames, starting December 1st.
