I thought I would take a picture of myself this morning because I was “feeling good.” I wish I hadn’t. I still have a long ways to go until I am happy with my appearance. I’m not sure why the camera refuses to take a photo of my hair the way I see it in the mirror, either.

I definitely prefer the photo I used on my book cover.

Soon I will be reviewing/trying a new product called Membership Riches written by Jason James.  I think I will also mention it on my podcast… or maybe start a new podcast.  There are a lot of different products like this on the market, so i thought it would be interesting to try and review some of them.

Stay tunes for my review of Membership Riches soon!

One of my good friends, Mason Gamble, starred in a movie called Groundhog Day.  Now, in the movie as many of you know, the main character gets up every day and it is the same as the day before, but he does a bunch of little things based on the previous “day” to affect the outcome.

Every day for the past 2 weeks has seemed like this.

Get up, go to work, come home, do … something, go to bed, rinse repeat.

Nothing spectacular, nothing memorable… just a sense of “being.”  Part of the problem is that I have a hard time saying “no” to people who ask me to do things.  Oftentimes I just say yes and then get angry that they asked me to do something.  Things at the theatre are not going the way I thought they would, and it is always the same people doing everything.  So much so that I snapped the other night at somebody who asked me to help out with ushering at a performance this weekend.

The same people who volunteer for everything are always asked to do more things.  Because they can be depended upon.  While that is a compliment, sometimes it is frustrating.  “Would you PLEASE find somebody else???” I felt like screaming.  When, in fact, all I needed to say was no.

No.   That has a nice ring to it.  No. No No No No.

This past year and a half I have become more involved in other activities than I ever have.  And it has put a strain on all of the activities because I can’t give 100% to each one any more.  I lost count how many Monday meetings and campouts I missed this past year.

Another side effect is that I haven’t taken any vacation, and my anniversary is coming up at work, where I will get 2 weeks next year.  I think some well-needed rest and relaxation are going to be needed over Christmas and New Years this year.  Maybe a weekend trip to Vegas?  Something.

Oh yeah, and why won’t technorati index my pages anymore? :(

I came home tonight and like a good Troy I did some workout exercises on the exercise ball. Only thing is, I was still a little sore from the workout I did this morning. Let’s rewind…

Back in my yute, like so many of my friends I loved to watch… The A Team. But not just the A Team… anything that Mr. T was on. Wrestling, Rocky, A Team, and that crazy Mr. T cartoon. Inbetween segments of the cartoon, the real Mr. T would come on the screen and tell all the kids they need to eat right and exercise. Mr. T told us he does 200 situps a day, eats 6 bowls of cereal for breakfast, and does 300 pushups every night.

Well, I wasn’t about to eat 6 bowls of cereal a day, not even with a lot of sugar.

So, I did the situps instead. Being skinny (oh the days of wearing a size “slim” jeans) I had a pretty easy time of it. Situps are easy. Why were some kids such wimps that they had to cross their hands on their chest instead of behind their heads. WIMPS!

Of course now… situps are a little more difficult. So, with the exercise ball, the first time I used it I thought “wow this is much easier!” you can arch your back wayyyyyyyyyy over the ball and get maximum extension and compression with very little “effort.” Unfortunately, the part I always forget, is there are more factors that go into using the ball than a normal situp. You have to balance while doing the exercise.

So tonight, when I finished doing the third set of 10, I got up off the ball and could barely stand up. I stood there for a few seconds, unable to straighten my back. Not that my back was hurt, but my abs were cramping.

Now THAT’s a new feeling. ow ow ow ow. ow. So I went and made dinner (ramen, beef) and came back and oince again stretched out on the ball and did some curls with weights. This stretched out the abs again and made them a little less sore. What this means though, is I’m doing something right, and hopefully eventually I will have something to show for it.

Of course, right now, I’m not looking forward to doing more tomorrow morning.

So this is day 3 of being back on “the-diet” and also day 3 of yet another feat…  no more Wal-Mart.   After being blasted by both Matt and Pete on my podcast for frequenting the discount store, I have decided to try a week without wal-mart.  Already I am feeling Wal-drawl, having wanted to go buy a new belt last night.

See, Wal-Mart is close, Target is far.  Wal-Mart is 24/7 Target is 8-10 (or is it 9?)

Gah.

I’m not sure what is going to be harder, the weight or Wal-Mart.  On a plus side I was down to 212.6 this morning.

Baby steps.

I’ve taken up reading more “success” and “grow rich” books lately.  When you boil everything down, they are all pretty much the same.  But the fact that they say a lot of the same things probably means they are on the right track.  For instance, one of the things they all seem to mention is dressing for success.  When I was at Warner Bros., and every job after that, we dressed down.  Black jeans, polo shirt, of course the artists always got away with T-Shirts.  When I started my latest job, I dressed up for about 6 months then went back to the black jeans and shoes.  I hate dressing up because, well, I hate my weight. My dress shirts always look like tents.

To me anyway.

So, that’s why I never dress up.  Well, hopefully with the weight coming off again, I can convince myself to dress up a little, more often.  It really does make a difference in how you feel when you dress up to go someplace.  I can’t explain it.  Maybe that’s one of the reasons you always feel good when you go to church.  You look good and you know it.

I am keeping my sights on the goal of 185, which is a whopping 27 more l-b’s.   I am going to try and get down to 200 by November 4/5 (if thats possible) for my cousin’s wedding, but that may be pushing it.

We’ll see how it looks tomorrow!

October

Ok, so years ago (20 weeks) a bunch of us started “The Diet.” Basically a group of people determined to lose much-needed weight. Mainly computer people (design, IT, etc) the goal was to lose… something.

I stuck to it for about 9 weeks, a good stretch, and then came the Renaissance Faire stuff. After many turkey legs and last minute stops at Long John Silvers… I had to stop temporarily.

I started the diet at 225, same as Colin. I am pleased to report that I have MAINTAINED what I lost during those first 9 weeks. I am still at 213.8. I wanted to be at 190, and that is still my goal. Colin has done that – and more – and it is very cool to see somebody be successful.

My problem now, is that posts on The Diet board have been inconsistent. The support that was there the first 9 weeks just doesn’t seem to be there. I’m not sure I can do this totally alone, it is very difficult. But, this is the week I try at least to get back on track. Already this morning I did crunches and a little lifting to get my day started. I will therefore endeavor to post weekly updates again on The Diet, whether you like hearing about it or not. ;)
